Renowned Zimdancehall musician, Tawanda Mumanyi, widely recognised by his stage name, Seh Calaz, has recently sounded the alarm on the escalating crisis of drug and substance abuse in Zimbabwe. In a heartfelt plea, the acclaimed artist implored the government to expedite its efforts in tackling this burgeoning menace that has gripped the nation, particularly affecting the younger generation.
Taking to his social media platforms, Seh Calaz used his influential voice to highlight the gravity of the situation, which has become an alarming concern for many Zimbabweans. He stressed the urgency of the matter and called for concrete actions beyond rhetoric, emphasising that simply addressing the issue through traditional channels such as television, radio, speeches, and social media was inadequate.
In his impassioned statement, Seh Calaz urged the government to take proactive steps to halt the rampant drug abuse and supply plaguing the nation. He called for the implementation of practical measures aimed at curbing this growing problem that has ensnared not only Zimbabwean youth but also individuals from various walks of life, including musicians, producers, fans, disc jockeys, bloggers, and individuals of all age groups.
Of particular concern was Seh Calaz’s mention of drug abuse even among civil servants, a deeply troubling revelation that underscores the pervasive nature of this issue. Crystal meth, commonly known as ‘mutoriro’ or ‘dombo’ in street parlance, was cited as one of the drugs gaining notoriety among users.
Zimbabwe, like many nations, faces the devastating consequences of drug abuse, including social and health ramifications. The timely call to action from Seh Calaz serves as a poignant reminder that the battle against drug abuse must be waged on multiple fronts, including education, prevention, treatment, and law enforcement.
