UK government commits to supporting climate tech innovations

Speaking at the Youth Climate Finance and Innovations Hub inauguration in Harare on Thursday, British Deputy Ambassador Jo Abbot stated that her government is dedicated to forming cutting-edge alliances that would help keep global warming below 2°C in accordance with the Paris Agreement.

“The hub symbolizes hope, opportunity, and empowerment for young people with solutions that can impact Zimbabwe and the global community; it represents more than just technological innovation,” Abbot stated. “I want to thank you for your interest in the work the UK is supporting in Zimbabwe in partnership with your government and to reiterate the UK’s commitment to future collaborations on climate action.”

The hub’s purpose is to let philanthropists, funders, donors, and investors communicate with one another. Additionally, it seeks to promote cooperation, highlight climate advances, and open up funding options for sustainable enterprises headed by young people.

Abbot highlights the power of partnerships in fighting climate change

“We hope to accelerate the development and implementation of solutions to combat climate change by bridging the gap between financial resources and passionate young minds,” Abbot stated.

Environment Minister Sithembiso Nyoni underlined the significance of swift, cooperative action to address climate change concerns in a speech read on her behalf by Lovemore Dhobha, the deputy director for climate change management.

We are reminded of the gravity of the climate situation as we assemble here today. Our communities, ecosystems, livelihoods, economies, and health and educational systems are all impacted by the actual, persistent, and wide-ranging effects of climate change, according to Nyoni. “To address these urgent issues, we must take decisive action and work together.”

According to News day, Nyoni went on to say that the youth-led Innovation Hub demonstrates a dedication to empowering the upcoming generation of leaders who will contribute to the development of a sustainable future for Zimbabwe, the region, and the global community.

According to Nyoni, “the hub will be an essential connection to mentors, financial institutions, development partners, and industry experts who can mentor and support young innovators.” In addition to making our young people more competitive in resource mobilization, the chance to sell and exchange ideas and resources in real time will also promote a culture of learning and sharing that is critical to the advancement of our country.
