- Party leaders warned against factionalism and vowed strict discipline.
ZANU PF has expelled outspoken war veteran Blessed “Bombshell” Geza following his vocal opposition to President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s potential extension beyond his constitutionally mandated two-term limit.
The decision, announced by ZANU PF’s Secretary for Legal Affairs Patrick Chinamasa, comes after the party’s disciplinary committee recommended his removal. Geza, a Central Committee member, was accused of indiscipline, factionalism, and undermining party leadership.
Chinamasa stated that Geza’s statements were not just a challenge to the party but an attack on state authority, describing them as actions “tantamount to treason.”
Under Article 19(1) of the ZANU PF constitution, party members are expected to maintain loyalty and discipline. The politburo upheld the disciplinary committee’s recommendation, expelling Geza with immediate effect.
Geza led a faction critical of government corruption
Geza had gained a following among a faction of former liberation war fighters who were growing increasingly frustrated with corruption within the ruling party.
According to New Zimbabwe, his outspoken stance made him a controversial figure, with some party members accusing him of stirring divisions.
ZANU PF expels Geza following President Mnangagwa’s recent warning to party members, urging them to remain disciplined and not challenge the party’s leadership.
Several other officials, including Member of Parliament Benjamin Ganyiwa and Godwin Gomwe, have also been dismissed over similar allegations.
Despite the party’s firm stance, Geza’s removal has sparked debate among political analysts, who see it as part of a broader strategy to suppress opposition within ZANU PF.
His supporters argue that his expulsion reflects growing intolerance for dissent, especially as discussions about Mnangagwa’s leadership beyond 2028 intensify.
ZANU PF vows crackdown on dissent within its ranks
Chinamasa made it clear that Geza’s removal is part of a broader campaign to maintain party unity. “The politburo is committed to preserving discipline within ZANU PF.
From today onwards, we will be known as a no-nonsense party when it comes to mischief, factionalism, or any behavior that threatens our unity,” he said.
The expulsion demonstrates that ZANU PF continues facing internal tensions as it strives to manage concerns about who will lead the party next.
The governing party has shown its commitment to muffle opposition against President Mnangagwa’s power retention by clamping down on internal dissension.
ZANU PF’s dismissal of Geza indicates a substantial change in Zimbabwe’s political environment that affects his future status. It is uncertain if Geza will continue his activism outside ZANU PF or if he will disappear from political focus.
