The Palestinian Prisoners and Freed Prisoners Affairs Committee has commended Egypt for its pivotal role in brokering a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, a move hailed as a breakthrough in addressing the ongoing conflict.
According to Egypttoday, Qadura Fares, head of the committee, expressed deep gratitude for Egypt’s mediation efforts, which culminated in the ceasefire and the associated prisoner exchange deal.
Egypt praises Gaza ceasefire
Speaking from Ramallah via a phone call to the Middle East News Agency’s Amman bureau, Fares emphasized that Egypt’s persistent engagement with negotiating parties was instrumental in finalizing the agreement.
“Palestine—its leadership, government, and people—extends profound appreciation to Egypt for its steadfast commitment to peace and stability,” Fares stated. He noted that the agreement marked a critical turning point since the onset of the Israeli aggression against Gaza, which has claimed countless lives and devastated the region’s infrastructure.
Fares highlighted that the ceasefire agreement, while long overdue, came as a vital step to halt the bloodshed and destruction. “The war has exacted an unimaginable toll—hundreds of thousands of Palestinians have been killed or injured, and Gaza’s infrastructure has been virtually obliterated,” he said.
The conflict, which persisted for over a year, inflicted widespread suffering on Palestinians. The ceasefire, Fares remarked, offers a glimmer of hope for a more stable future. “This agreement is not just a cessation of hostilities; it is an opportunity to prevent further escalation and bring an end to the ongoing war,” he added.
Egypt leads Gaza ceasefire talks
Fares expressed optimism that the deal would pave the way for long-term peace. He underscored the importance of translating the ceasefire into a sustainable solution, one that could address the root causes of the conflict and bring lasting stability to the region.
The committee head also praised the international community for supporting the ceasefire talks but stressed that Egypt’s leadership was central to navigating the complex negotiations.
The development follows an extended period of intense violence that has left Gaza in ruins and deepened the humanitarian crisis. The agreement is seen as a testament to the power of diplomacy and collaborative efforts in conflict resolution.
The Palestinian leadership has called for further international engagement to ensure the ceasefire’s terms are upheld and to rebuild Gaza’s war-torn infrastructure. They have urged all parties to seize this opportunity to establish lasting peace in the region.
Egypt’s role as a mediator has reinforced its standing as a key player in Middle Eastern geopolitics, with its ability to facilitate dialogue and foster agreements being widely recognized.
