President Emphasizes Productivity and Unity, Urging Focus on National Progress

by Ikeoluwa Ogungbangbe

President Emmerson Mnangagwa recently addressed the 374th Ordinary Session of the Politburo, the highest decision-making body of the ruling Zanu PF party. In his speech, Mnangagwa underscored the party’s commitment to development and progress, emphasizing that Zanu PF prioritizes the well-being of all Zimbabweans above internal politics and power struggles.

The president’s remarks come at a critical time for the party, as tensions simmer within its ranks ahead of the district coordinating committees (DCCs) elections, which are pivotal for shaping the party’s leadership landscape across the country. Against this backdrop, Mnangagwa sought to reiterate the party’s core values and objectives, emphasizing unity, loyalty, and a focus on national development.

Addressing party members, Mnangagwa emphasized the need to transcend petty squabbles and personal ambitions, urging them to remain steadfast in their commitment to the party’s mission. He stressed that Zanu PF is not merely about holding positions of power but about driving progress, prosperity, unity, and peace for all Zimbabweans, irrespective of their social status or geographic location.

“We are not a party about positions; we are about progress, prosperity, unity, peace, and development for all people of Zimbabwe, no matter where they live or their social standing,” Mnangagwa affirmed.

The president’s message resonated with the party’s founding principles, which prioritize the upliftment of Zimbabwean lives and the advancement of the national development agenda. Mnangagwa urged party leaders to align themselves with these principles and to focus on accelerating the country’s economic growth and social development.

“In light of the challenges we face, including decades of illegal sanctions, we cannot afford to be distracted by trivial internal disputes. Our focus must remain on the overarching goal of improving the quality of life for every Zimbabwean,” Mnangagwa remarked.

The president called on party members to uphold discipline, loyalty, and a strong work ethic, emphasizing the importance of maintaining the party’s revolutionary spirit and ideological integrity. He urged leaders to lead by example and to demonstrate unwavering commitment to the party’s mission, both in public and in private.

“We must maintain the requisite discipline, loyalty, and focus not only on defending our independence, freedom, and empowerment but also on improving the quality of life of every Zimbabwean,” Mnangagwa reiterated.

The president’s speech also touched on the upcoming district coordinating committees (DCCs) elections, urging party members to approach the process with unity and a spirit of cooperation. He emphasized the need for transparent and fair elections, free from external interference or manipulation. “As we prepare for the DCCs elections, let us uphold the principles of democracy and inclusivity. Let us ensure that every member’s voice is heard and that the process is conducted with integrity and transparency,” Mnangagwa urged.
