Police confirm brake failure as the cause of the tragic crash

Four people have been identified by police as victims of a tragic cargo truck accident that happened in Mutare on Thursday at noon. Following a suspected technical issue, the vehicle crashed with other vehicles and injured pedestrians.

Fatal crash at Christmas Pass claims four lives

Timothy Muchichwa, an adult man from Jaricha Village, 22 Miles, Mutare; Eunice Kutsoka, 38, of 4510 Hobhouse, Mutare; Peter Dzinamarira, 70, of Jaricha Village, 22 Miles, Mutare; and Robert Goza, 57, of Nyanga, were killed in the collision that occurred near the rugged Christmas Pass.

According to New Zimbabawe, commissioner Paul Nyathi, national spokesperson for the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP), verified the collision, which happened at VED Mutare on the Harare-Mutare Road at around 12:40 p.m.

Brake failure suspected in deadly cargo truck accident

Nyathi claims that while descending Christmas Pass, the cement-carrying haulage truck struck four cars and four pedestrians before toppling over and landing on its roof. The fourth victim passed away after being admitted to Victoria Chitepo Hospital, while the other three perished at the spot.

According to preliminary investigations, the truck’s brakes failed, causing the collision.

Two people who perished in an accident near the 36-kilometer peg at Showgrounds in Domboshava on the Harare-Makumbe Road were identified by police in a different incident. Tambudzai Brandina Chipili, 54, and Nozithelo Makumalo, 3, were named as the victims.
