Zimbabwe’s intensified crackdown on drug abuse has led to the arrest of more than 10,000 people and the dismantling of over 50 drug dens since the start of the year.

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) confirmed the figures, highlighting the success of the government’s efforts to combat drug trafficking and substance abuse.

ZRP National Spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi praised the progress made. He emphasized that the arrests reflect the effectiveness of the national action plan launched by the government.

“This is a coordinated approach, as highlighted in the recent cabinet briefing. The numbers speak for themselves, with over 10,000 arrests made across the country,” Nyathi said.

The ongoing operation is part of a broader effort led by the ministerial task force against drug and substance abuse. Authorities remain committed to dismantling supply networks and prosecuting those responsible for fueling the crisis.

President Mnangagwa demands accountability from drug traffickers

President Emmerson Mnangagwa has taken a strong stance against drug lords, calling for swift legal action to hold them accountable.

Speaking at the National Youth Day celebrations in Bulawayo, Mnangagwa urged young people to reject drug abuse and make positive choices for their future.

During the event, Minister of Defence Oppah Muchinguri-Kashiri, who chairs the Inter-Ministerial Committee on Drug and Substance Abuse, echoed the president’s sentiments. She encouraged the youth to stay away from drugs and focus on building productive lives.

The government’s approach includes increased law enforcement operations, community awareness campaigns, and rehabilitation programs for affected individuals.

According to ZBC News, officials believe that a combination of these measures will help curb the spread of drug-related issues across Zimbabwe.

Government intensifies efforts with the National Drug Master Plan

The Zimbabwe National Drug Master Plan is at the center of the country’s strategy to combat drug and substance abuse. The initiative focuses on addressing the public health, socio-economic, and national security challenges posed by illegal drugs.

The authorities collaborate with local populations to recognize areas with high drug risks and immediately respond to drug cartels. Through this plan, they have made rehabilitation a key component to help addicts recover their life control.

With thousands of arrests already made and more operations underway, the government remains determined to eliminate drug-related crimes and protect the country’s youth from the dangers of substance abuse.

Law enforcement agencies will maintain their focus on drug traffickers to enforce justice upon those responsible for crimes.
