Zimbabwean Stars Dominate African Entertainment Awards in USA

In a resounding showcase of Zimbabwean talent transcending borders, dancehall maestro Winky D, along with fellow artists, emerged triumphant at the Annual African Entertainment Awards, USA (AEAUSA). The prestigious event, held at Newark Symphony Hall in the United States, saw Winky D clinch the coveted Best Reggae/Dancehall Artiste title for the second consecutive year.

 

Joining the winners’ circle, Jah Prayzah secured the accolade for Best Male Artiste in the East/South/North Africa category, while the melodious Gemma Griffiths claimed the Best Female title for the same region. Additionally, South Africa-based Lynol “Mr Brown” Siwela earned the Best Collaboration award for his duet “MaGear” featuring Mzansi sensation Makhadzi.

 

Winky D’s consistent success echoes his 2020 victory, where he triumphed over renowned artists such as Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy. This year, he faced formidable competition from Jamaican icons Buju Banton and Popcaan, as well as Ghanaian reggae dancehall star Shatta Wale.

 

Expressing humility and gratitude on social media, Winky D acknowledged his fans’ unwavering support, emphasizing their pivotal role in his musical journey. Jah Prayzah echoed these sentiments, stating, “I do music to entertain myself and my fans, but whenever I get recognition for it, it is a bonus. Thank you, Team JP, and thank you, AEAUSA.”
