Judith Buzuzi has been elected as the new president of the institute, Chartered Governance and Accountancy Institute in Zimbabwe (CGI Zimbabwe). Her election marks the beginning of a new chapter for the organization, which plays an important role in shaping governance and accountancy standards in Zimbabwe. Buzuzi, an experienced consultant in agriculture, insurance, and governance, will lead the institute for the next two years, succeeding Jonathan Dube, whose term recently concluded.
The election of Buzuzi signals a continued commitment to strong leadership within CGI Zimbabwe. The organization, established by an Act of Parliament, holds a unique position as the only chartered governance institute in the country. It is a division of the global Chartered Governance Institute, renowned for its leadership in governance worldwide. This connection to a global network underscores CGI Zimbabwe’s influence and importance in both the public and private sectors of the country.
Buzuzi expressed her deep honor in being chosen to lead the institute, emphasizing the critical role CGI Zimbabwe plays in governance and accountancy. She highlighted the institute’s contributions not only in shaping professionals in these fields but also in providing thought leadership that impacts national policies. “The institute has been critical and pivotal in not only shaping governance and accountancy professionals but also in contributing to thought leadership in both the public and private sectors in Zimbabwe,” Buzuzi remarked. CGI Zimbabwe has also been actively involved in collaborative efforts to implement national goals such as Vision 2030. Buzuzi emphasized that the institute’s role extends beyond professional development, reaching into the realms of policy-making and national strategy. Buzuzi’s election comes at a time when governance and accountability are more critical than ever in Zimbabwe. Her extensive background in both agriculture and insurance, coupled with her experience in governance, positions her well to lead the institute during this crucial period. Before her election as president, Buzuzi had a distinguished career that included being one of the first women to serve as an agricultural extension and technical officer in the 1980s. She later became a Ciba-Geigy agronomist, further solidifying her expertise in the agricultural sector.
Over the years, Buzuzi held various managerial and executive positions, including roles with the Agricultural Finance Company, Zimnat Lion Insurance Company, Botswana Insurance Company, Health and Hygiene, and Suremed Health Insurance. Her diverse experience across different sectors has equipped her with a broad perspective on the challenges and opportunities facing governance professionals in Zimbabwe.
In addition to her professional achievements, Buzuzi served as a commissioner with the Zimbabwe Land Commission from 2016 to 2021. During her tenure, she contributed to key decisions and policies related to land management in Zimbabwe, further demonstrating her leadership abilities. Since 2007, Buzuzi has been providing consultancy services in agriculture, insurance, and governance, helping organizations navigate complex challenges in these fields.
Buzuzi’s election as president of CGI Zimbabwe is also notable for the support she has received from her peers within the institute. Lifneth Moyo was re-elected as vice president, and Tendayi Kanjanda, the finance director of Nyaradzo Funeral Group, was elected as the institute’s other vice president. This leadership team is expected to bring a wealth of experience and strategic vision to CGI Zimbabwe, helping to guide the institute’s efforts in governance and accountancy.
