President Emmerson Mnangagwa has expressed gratitude to Zimbabwean churches for their partnership with the government in advancing the nation’s development.
Speaking at the National Thanksgiving and Dedication Service in Bulawayo on Sunday, the President highlighted the crucial bond between the church and the government in fostering unity, hope, and progress.
Churches as pillars of hope and guidance
Acknowledging the pivotal role of churches, Mnangagwa said their unwavering commitment to preaching the “uncorrupted word of God” has provided wisdom and guidance for the nation.
He commended religious leaders for remaining steadfast in their duties and contributing to Zimbabwe’s socio-economic growth.
“Your wholehearted service is deeply appreciated by my government. The church remains a beacon of hope and a source of wisdom for our people,” he said.
Mnangagwa also reflected on the nation’s liberation history, attributing Zimbabwe’s freedom to divine intervention.
“We stand today as a free and independent people, celebrating freedom of worship and a people-centered development agenda,” he added.
Tackling cllimate change through development
Turning to climate change, Mnangagwa assured citizens that his government would not relent in mitigating its effects.
He cited ongoing projects like dam construction and borehole drilling as measures to safeguard agriculture and water supply.
“As a nation, we are not surrendering to the vagaries of climate change. Numerous dams and boreholes are being built to counter uneven rainfall patterns,” he said, encouraging citizens to seek divine intervention for rains.
Youths urged to champion National Growth
The President also called on Zimbabwe’s youth to prioritize hard work and national development over distractions from detractors.
According to ZBC News, he emphasized their role in shaping the country’s future while warning against influences aimed at derailing progress.
“Youths must be wary of the machinations of our detractors and commit to building our nation,” Mnangagwa said.
