KEY POINTS

  • War veterans reaffirm their support for President Mnangagwa’s leadership.
  • ZANU PF leaders warn against internal divisions and critics.
  • Mnangagwa’s development initiatives, including a $1.5 million fund, aim to empower veterans.

Zimbabwe’s War Veterans League has reaffirmed its support for President Emmerson Mnangagwa, commending his leadership and developmental programs across the country.

The declaration came during the launch of the $1.5 million Presidential War Veterans Fund at the ZANU PF headquarters in Harare.

War Veterans Secretary Douglas Mahiya praised Mnangagwa for prioritizing people-centered policies and warned against individuals who criticize the president or attempt to divide the party.

He emphasized that the league stands united behind Mnangagwa and his leadership.

“No war veteran owns the liberation struggle—it was a collective effort. We remain committed to supporting President Mnangagwa and fully endorse the resolution for him to stay in office beyond 2028,” said Mahiya.

ZANU PF unity and internal challenges

Mahiya also addressed internal divisions, dismissing criticism from individuals outside the War Veterans League.

He made it clear that ZANU PF operates as a democratic movement that follows the will of the people, not personal ambitions.

“We cannot allow outsiders or rogue elements to dictate our values and principles. We fought together for Zimbabwe’s liberation, and we continue to fight against those who seek to undo the progress we have made,” Mahiya said.

His comments appeared to be directed at Blessed Geza, a war veteran who has publicly criticized Mnangagwa’s administration, accusing it of nepotism and corruption.

According to ZBC News, Mahiya dismissed Geza’s views as irrelevant, stating that Mnangagwa’s achievements speak for themselves.

Mnangagwa’s development programs and future ambitions

Through his government, Mnangagwa established various empowerment programs with the Presidential War Veterans Fund being among them. This fund provides financial backing to ex-freedom fighters for developing income-producing projects.

As part of his “leaving no one and no place behind” strategy, the program works to deliver economic possibilities to veterans and high-risk populations.

With the war veterans’ backing, Mnangagwa’s allies continue to push for an extension of his presidency to 2030.

His supporters maintain that through his rule, Zimbabwe has achieved stability and development, which supports his candidacy for future national growth initiatives.
