During a solo navigation training exercise, a Karakorum-8 (K-8) jet trainer crashed close to Guinea Fowl, killing Air Lt. Nesbert Tambudza, a young trainee pilot.

At No. 2 Squadron, Josiah Tungamirai Air Force Base in Gweru, a talented young officer named Air Lt. Tambudza was completing the last stage of his jet flying conversion training when the tragedy happened, around five kilometers east of Guinea Fowl. Upon contact, the aircraft sustained significant damage.
Commander in Chief of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces (ZDF), Valerio Sibanda, affirmed in a statement that there were no civilian casualties or property damage on the ground.

“The Commander Zimbabwe Defence Forces extends sincere condolences to the family, friends, and coworkers of our departed officer, Air Lt. Tambudza, on behalf of the officers, men, and women of the ZDF,” Sibanda said.
He said Air Lt. Tambudza was a brilliant and committed pilot who had demonstrated tremendous promise during his training. His abilities and dedication to serve were demonstrated by his selection for the jet flying conversion training course.
According to New Zimbabawe, a Board of Inquiry has been formed by the authorities to look into what caused the incident. The investigation’s conclusions will assist in identifying any potential technical malfunctions, human mistake, or other contributing elements.
Details on the funeral procession and burial plans will be made public by the Zimbabwe Defence Forces when the time comes.
Since Air Lt. Tambudza was regarded as a young officer with a bright future, his passing is a great tragedy for the ZDF and the aviation community.Â
