Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa has called on his cabinet ministers to recommit themselves to transforming lives and delivering on the nation’s development goals as the country works towards Vision 2030.

Speaking at the first cabinet meeting of 2025, held at State House in Harare, the president stressed the importance of prioritizing citizens’ needs and ensuring tangible results in government programs.

“All members are reminded of the need to once again recommit ourselves to the duty of transforming livelihoods and developing our great nation towards the attainment of Vision 2030,” Mnangagwa said. “Every ministry must prioritize outcomes that positively affect the lives of our people.”

Mnangagwa emphasized that every department must actively engage with citizens, listen to their concerns, and act with urgency to improve governance and service delivery.

He urged ministers to foster a culture of accountability, transparency, and excellence, ensuring that no one is left behind in the country’s progress.

Driving economic growth and investment

Beyond governance and public service, Mnangagwa called for a more business-friendly approach to economic development.

According to ZBC News, he pointed out that regulatory barriers and excessive administrative licenses should not hinder investment opportunities.

“To enhance the overall performance of our economy, the ease of doing business agenda continues to be an important aspect of our programming. We must revisit all the areas that hinder investment growth, whether local or foreign,” he stated.

Moreover, the president praised Zimbabweans for their entrepreneurial spirit and encouraged his ministers to create an environment that fosters business expansion.

Under his leadership, the ministries received instructions to develop investor-supportive policies which would maximize the success of small businesses.

Bold and decisive leadership

Mnangagwa also reminded cabinet ministers that there is no room for hesitation or inaction when it comes to their responsibilities. He urged them to demonstrate boldness, decisiveness, and commitment to their roles.

“I challenge us to undertake our work with utmost humility, sacrifice, and commitment. Cabinet is run based on collective responsibility; we must pull in one direction. There is no room for lethargy, fence-sitting, or dragging of feet,” he said.

The president emphasized the importance of leader behavior as servant and the necessity of professional efficiency, when he explained officials should prioritize real results for citizen welfare.

The government began its 2025 agenda by holding its initial cabinet meeting of the year, thus strengthening President Mnangagwa’s vision of building Zimbabwe into an economically strong and transparent developmental nation.
