Zimbabwe has enough grain reserves to sustain the country until April, according to government officials.

Speaking at a post-cabinet media briefing in Harare, Minister of Information, Publicity, and Broadcasting Services Dr. Jenfan Muswere reassured citizens that the Grain Marketing Board’s stock levels are sufficient to meet national demand.

This announcement comes as a relief to millions of Zimbabweans who depend on maize and other grains as staple foods, especially amid economic challenges.

Government officials emphasized that they are closely monitoring food security and implementing strategies to ensure stable food supply and affordability for households across the country.

New economic measures announced

Alongside the grain update, the cabinet addressed key economic concerns, particularly challenges facing micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs).

Following the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe’s Monetary Policy Statement, the government announced several policy adjustments to support businesses and economic stability.

One major change is the adjustment of the foreign currency retention ratio for exporters, shifting from 75 percent to 70 percent, allowing businesses to retain slightly more of their export earnings.

According to ZBC News, the central bank has also reduced bank charges and introduced minimum deposit interest rates, aiming to encourage investment and ease financial pressures.

Additionally, cabinet members received a report on the joint SADC-EAC summit regarding the ongoing conflict in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), underlining Zimbabwe’s involvement in regional peace efforts.

Youth Day celebrations set for Bulawayo

The government also confirmed that the 2025 National Youth Day celebrations will take place at Barbourfields Stadium in Bulawayo next week.

Themed “Empower Youth, Secure the Future,” the event will bring together an estimated 20,000 youths to showcase their talents, businesses, and contributions to national development.

February 20 will open the pre-celebration activities with sporting matches, cultural displays, and exhibitions for youth alongside community cleaning initiatives.

Additionally, a community outreach program on drug and substance abuse will take place, emphasizing the government’s commitment to addressing social challenges.

The celebrations will showcase a distinctive feature through the Ixhiba/Nhanga/Gota cultural experience, led by First Lady Dr. Auxillia Mnangagwa, which seeks to maintain traditional values and empower young people.
