  • Leaders argue that his policies are driving national development.
  • Party warns members to use social media responsibly.

Leaders of the ZANU-PF Mashonaland West province are doubling down on calls for President Emmerson Mnangagwa to extend his term beyond 2028, arguing that his leadership is crucial for ongoing national development.

During a party meeting at Neuso Shopping Centre in Mhondoro-Mubaira, members praised Mnangagwa for spearheading infrastructure projects, rural transformation, and economic development.

They insisted that allowing him to lead until 2030 would ensure the full realization of his vision.

“We have seen a lot of changes under his leadership, from road maintenance to food security programs,” one party member said. “Our President has delivered on his promises, and we need him to continue.”

Development projects drive support for extension

The endorsement comes from the different programs initiated by the Second Republic, including building new roads, upgrading schools and aiding farmers.

According to ZBC News, local leaders highlighted how Mnangagwa’s government provided food aid during last year’s drought and distributed farming inputs to boost production this year.

Mashonaland West Women’s League Chairperson, Constance Shamu, emphasized the importance of continuity for women’s empowerment programs.

“Many of the initiatives that uplift women financially depend on Mnangagwa’s leadership, and we need him to stay in office to secure the progress we have made,” she said.

Mashonaland West Chairperson Mary Mliswa-Chikoka echoed similar sentiments, clarifying that the President has not personally requested an extension, but rather, party members are calling for it based on his performance.

Calls for unity and responsible social media use

ZANU-PF leaders highlighted to their members that unity would produce party success, by instructing them to maintain party solidarity and concentrate on national growth.

Additionally, the party declared its intention to establish a new social media policy that will protect the organization from misused platforms, while ensuring proper discipline.

“We must be responsible with our online engagements and ensure that our communication aligns with party principles,” one leader stated.

All attention currently focuses on how the government and party structures will address the growing demands for Mnangagwa to stay in power.
