An 85-year-old caretaker in Kensington was left seriously injured after being struck in the neck with an axe by a woman who police say had demanded sex from him.
The attack happened around 5 p.m. on Aug. 10, when the woman known to the victim allegedly entered his room and made the demand. Bulawayo police spokesperson Inspector Nomalanga Msebele said the man refused, prompting the suspect to grab an axe and strike him on the right side of the neck.
Elderly caretaker injured in axe attack
The victim sustained a deep wound before managing to report the incident to police. An ambulance took him to a hospital for treatment, and authorities have appealed for information to help track down the suspect. Police also urged the public to settle disputes without violence.
Fatal stabbing after bar rejection
On the same day in Kwekwe, police arrested two men over the killing of a 40-year-old woman at Mutegude Shops, Redcliff. The victim, Rosemary Diana, had reportedly rejected romantic advances from one of the suspects, 24-year-old Nkosinomusa Moyo.
Police warn amid Zimbabwe sexual violence cases
Police alleged Moyo’s co-accused, 22-year-old Thembinkosi Ndlovu, struck Diana several times with a cooking stick before Moyo stabbed her in the back with a knife. She died at the scene. The two remain in custody as investigations continue.
