Zimbabwe’s retail sector has expressed its full support for President Emmerson Mnangagwa, describing him as an exceptional leader who has fostered stability, growth, and prosperity in the country.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Confederation of Zimbabwe Retailers (CZR) said Mnangagwa’s visionary approach to governance has created an environment of peace and unity, while his focus on economic development has yielded remarkable results.
The CZR, which represents retail companies and supermarkets, said Mnangagwa has spurred job creation, boosted productivity, and enhanced the overall well-being of the nation.
“Since the consummation of the Second Republic, President Dr. ED Mnangagwa has shown unwavering commitment, tireless dedication, and exceptional leadership to the progress and well-being of our great nation,” said CZR President Denford Mutashu.
Economic Reforms and Resilience
The CZR commended Mnangagwa for implementing economic reforms that have improved macroeconomic stability, reduced inflation and exchange rate volatility, and increased foreign currency reserves.
The statement also praised the president for extending the use of US dollars as legal tender until 2030, saying this has reduced policy uncertainty and increased consumer confidence.
The CZR said Zimbabwe’s economy has shown resilience amid global headwinds, such as the slowdown in global output, trade, and investment, the volatility in commodity prices, and the supply disruptions caused by the El Niño weather pattern.
They also said Zimbabwe’s economy grew by 4.5 percent in 2023, making it one of the fastest-growing economies in the Southern African Development Community (SADC).
The CZR projected a moderate growth of 3.5 percent in 2024, as agricultural output is expected to suffer from below-average rainfall and depressed global demand.
Social and Diplomatic Achievements
The CZR also lauded Mnangagwa for launching groundbreaking initiatives that have ensured access to quality education and affordable healthcare for all citizens.
The statement said these measures will have a long-lasting positive impact on the lives of countless individuals and contribute to the advancement of society.
The CZR also applauded Mnangagwa’s leadership on the global stage, saying he has strengthened Zimbabwe’s standing and forged alliances that promote peace, cooperation, and mutual understanding.
The statement said Mnangagwa’s integrity, vision, and dedication have propelled the country forward and inspired citizens across all walks of life.
“We stand united in support of the president’s continued efforts to build a brighter future for our nation and its citizens,” said Mutashu.
The CZR expressed its optimism that Zimbabwe will overcome its challenges and achieve its vision of becoming an upper-middle-income economy by 2030.
The statement said the CZR will continue to work with the government and other stakeholders to create a conducive business environment, improve service delivery, and enhance customer satisfaction.
The statement also urged Zimbabweans to remain vigilant and adhere to the health and safety protocols to prevent the spread of any diseases.
The CZR said it is confident that Zimbabwe will emerge stronger and more prosperous under Mnangagwa’s leadership.
