Showcasing Heritage and Supporting Education

Diaspora Insurance, a leading provider of financial services to the African diaspora, is actively participating in Africa Day celebrations across Europe and the United Kingdom. This year’s Africa Day, on May 25th, coincides with several events the company is supporting, highlighting their commitment to the African community and the continent’s future.

Showcasing Heritage and Supporting Education

The Zurich-based Africa Heritage Expo, a cultural and economic extravaganza promoting African heritage and global health awareness, takes center stage this Africa Day weekend. Diaspora Insurance will be a key partner at the Expo, showcasing its popular funeral cash plan and newly launched group insurance policies to attendees. Dr. Sibert Mandega, Executive Director of Diaspora Insurance, will lead a team at the event, aiming to connect with the African diaspora community in Europe.

Diaspora Insurance’s reach extends beyond Zurich. Throughout the UK, the company is sponsoring a variety of events that celebrate African culture and heritage. These include the Uganda Beach Party in London, the annual Namibia UK sports day in Southampton, and a family-friendly BBQ in Leeds. Additionally, they are supporting the Kenya Ladies of Purpose event and the Zimbabwe Cup Clash football tournament, both held in Birmingham.

A Focus on Education

The theme for Africa Day 2024 is “Educate an African Fit for the 21st Century: Building Resilient Education Systems for Increased Access to Inclusive, Lifelong, Quality, and Relevant Learning in Africa.” A UNESCO and African Union report revealed a concerning statistic: over a quarter of school-aged children on the continent were out of school in 2023. The report further highlighted the low literacy rate, with a staggering 9 out of 10 school children failing to read or write by age ten.

In response to these challenges, the African Union declared 2024 the “Year of Education” and is urging member states to accelerate progress towards achieving Sustainable Development Goal 4 (SDG4). This UN goal calls for all nations to ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and lifelong learning opportunities for all. Diaspora Insurance recognizes the critical role that civil society organizations play in supporting educational initiatives across Africa. By sponsoring Africa Day events, the company hopes to raise awareness about the importance of education and encourage investment in this vital sector.

Diaspora Insurance and Financial Inclusion

Beyond cultural celebrations and educational initiatives, Diaspora Insurance views Africa Day as an opportunity to promote financial inclusion amongst the African diaspora community. The company’s financial products and services are specifically designed to meet the needs of Africans living abroad. For instance, their funeral cash plans provide financial support to families back home during a difficult time. The newly launched group insurance policies offer additional security and peace of mind.

Diaspora Insurance’s participation in Africa Day events across Europe and the UK demonstrates their commitment to building stronger relationships with the African diaspora community. By showcasing their services and supporting cultural and educational initiatives, they are working towards a future where Africans abroad can achieve financial security and contribute meaningfully to the development of the continent.

While Africa Day marks a significant moment for celebrating African heritage and progress, Diaspora Insurance’s commitment to the continent extends throughout the year. The company plays an active role in supporting various initiatives that promote financial inclusion, education, and healthcare access within African communities. Their participation in Africa Day events serves as a public display of this ongoing dedication.
