SRC suspends Director-General Nengomasha with immediate effect
Sebastian Garikai has been named acting Director-General by the SRC in the meantime. Prior to Nengomasha’s appointment, Garikai was the organization’s first acting Director-General, therefore he has expertise in the position. According to the SRC, Garikai’s experience with the duties of the office should help maintain stability and consistency within the company during this time of change.
When Nengomasha was named Director-General of the SRC in March 2023, she brought with her a commitment to developing the sports and leisure industries in the country. Her suspension is an unexpected event within the organisation, and her term to date has been very brief—just over six months. Nengomasha worked on a number of projects during her brief tenure as leader with the goal of supporting leisure and athletic programs and encouraging young people to participate in sports nationwide.
As the SRC’s acting director general, Garikai is required to keep the organisation focused on its primary goal of advancing and growing sports and leisure activities across the country. As he returns to work, his previous expertise in the position is expected to be helpful, and the SRC has expressed confidence in his capacity to handle daily operations and supervise ongoing initiatives.
In addition to creating policies to enhance sports facilities, plan tournaments, and promote youth involvement, the SRC is in charge of overseeing and assisting sports and leisure organisations across the nation. The abrupt suspension of its Director-General is sure to raise concerns about how the SRC will handle any possible delays to its activities, as its leadership is in charge of several relationships and initiatives. Neither the date nor the nature of the hearing have been disclosed by the commission.
Reason for Nengomasha’s suspension not disclosed by SRC
Stakeholders in the sports and recreation industries are curious about the ramifications of this leadership shift, and the SRC’s move to suspend Nengomasha without giving any explanation has aroused their interest. As the SRC moves through this transitional phase and gets ready for the hearing, Garikai will continue to serve as its acting leader until more information becomes available.
