Zimbabweans employed as caretakers in the UK and other wealthy nations have come under fire from outspoken preacher Apostle Talent Chiwenga, who claims that they have been forced to providing care for “unwanted, mentally challenged former sex workers” in exchange for cash.
Chiwenga blasts caregiving roles for Zimbabweans abroad
Chiwenga said this while preaching at Jesus Revelation Ministries, a church he started that is well-known for its divisive beliefs, such as that wives do not give their consent in marriage.
Due to severe unemployment, a faltering economy, and bad government, thousands of Zimbabweans are fleeing the country in quest of better economic possibilities.
The National Health Service (NHS) in the United Kingdom employs over 4,500 physicians and nurses with training from Zimbabwe, with many more working as nurse assistants. Significant numbers of Zimbabwean laborers have also been hired by nations including Australia, the US, and New Zealand.
“Filthy work” claims spark caregiver mental health concerns
During the sermon, Chiwenga stated, “It is a mistake for us, the sons of God, to be used to toil day and night doing filthy work so that other sinners may enjoy their lives.”
While her family members are on vacation, you are responsible for caring for the mother who has dementia. While claiming that life is good, you’ll be busy snapping photos of yourself and sending them home.
“Even though you have never bathed or cleaned your own mother’s clothes, you are doing it there for pay. Some of these women now depend on the government after being commercial sex workers who were deserted by their kids. You are caring for these individuals in England.
As stated by New Zimbabawe, the diaspora population in Zimbabwe, which accounted for 25% of Zimbabwe’s total foreign exchange earnings last year, includes a sizable number of Zimbabwean caretakers in the United Kingdom.
Chiwenga maintained that such labor should not be honored since it causes mental fatigue.
“What kind of love can you give your spouse when you come home from work after enduring their spit on your face all day?” he said.
“Are you aware that caring for a mentally ill patient can lead to mental exhaustion? Their relatives didn’t want to do it themselves, so you spent the day with them.
