The local community is shocked after a 32-year-old man in Buhera, Manicaland province, was detained for reportedly using an axe to decapitate his 11-year-old son in an unprovoked attack.
Father allegedly murders son with an axe in unprovoked attack
Tawanda Magoso, a native of Daakoni Village, was identified as the suspect by the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP). Commissioner Paul Nyathi, the national spokesperson for the ZRP, said in a statement that the horrific event took place at Magoso’s residence on January 10, 2025.
“According to the ZRP, Tawanda Magoso, 32, was taken into custody in relation to a murder case that took place at his home in Daakoni Village, Buhera, where his son, 11-year-old Taonga Magoso, perished,” Nyathi stated.
As stated by New Zimbabwe, Magoso had gone to a shrine to pray, and the police said he had returned home. When they got there, he allegedly grabbed an axe from his bedroom and attacked his son without warning.
Nyathi stated, “The victim suffered multiple injuries on his back and his head was severed from the torso.” “The victim passed away from their wounds at the scene.”
Community helps apprehend father after horrific crime
People in the village banded together to capture Magoso after his activities caused terror. After being restrained, he was turned over to the police, who are currently looking into the incident more.
Although the attack’s motivation is yet unknown, the community has widely condemned the incident for its savagery. Residents and local authorities have called for justice for the young kid and described the conduct as “inhumane,” expressing horror and outrage.
