The City of Bulawayo has vehemently denied social media rumors that the Nkulumane suburb and its environs are infested with bedbugs. City officials urged citizens not to panic or share false information in an official statement, characterizing the viral communications as harmful and untrue. They informed the public that the aforementioned areas are free of such infestations.

Bulawayo City denies bedbug infestation claims

The false posts, which have been extensively disseminated on a number of platforms, asserted that there was a serious bedbug outbreak in the suburbs of Sokusile, Emganwini, and Nketa. Residents were alarmed by these allegations, with many fearing a public health emergency. The City of Bulawayo, however, acknowledged that it had not been notified of any formal complaints or allegations about bedbugs in these regions.

According to Bulwayo 24, “The social media message that is now trending is false. According to the statement, there have been no confirmed instances of bedbugs in Nkulumane or the aforementioned suburbs to the City of Bulawayo. The city stressed that citizens should rely on reliable sources for information and that it is still keeping an eye on the situation.

Health officials assure public readiness and caution

Given the verified reports of bedbug outbreaks in other regions of the nation, city health officials reassured the public that they are always on the lookout for any indications of infestation. They promised that if the need arose, the city would be ready to act quickly. They emphasized that no confirmed occurrences have been reported in the impacted areas, nevertheless.

Through official channels, the city has advised citizens to maintain composure and stay informed. Additionally, it has prompted people to notify the local health authorities with any valid worries. Authorities cautioned against disseminating unconfirmed information because it could unnecessarily generate confusion and panic.
