Contractors resume Harare–Beitbridge road project with full equipment mobilization
The long-awaited final building phase of the Harare–Masvingo–Beitbridge Road improvement, a vital corridor connecting Zimbabwe with SADC countries, has begun.
For this important national project, contractors such as Bitumen World, Exodus and Company, Masimba Holdings, and Fossil Contracting have mobilized personnel and equipment.
Depending on the weather and unhindered site access across portions, officials anticipate finishing the road works between August and December.
On Thursday, a government delegation led by Ezra Chadzamira, Masvingo’s Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, inspected the building progress.
He praised the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructural Development for advancing the project and expressed pleasure with the rate of work.
Although the province had suffered the most, Chadzamira praised the government’s renewed emphasis on finishing the infrastructure projects.
“Now that all contractors are here, work is moving forward. Full completion is anticipated to occur this year between August and December, he stated.
Masimba Holdings engineer Takudzwa Mposiwa stated that they have finished 45% of the 27-kilometer section they are working on.
Mposiwa stated that because to consistent crew participation and steady on-site circumstances, the section is expected to be finished in three months.
Resuming construction has been welcomed by local companies and road users, who say it provides relief and optimism for improved trade links and mobility.
Harare–Beitbridge road project boosts hopes for trade and travel
A driver voiced hope, stating that the completion of the Mucheke Bridge was long overdue due to the high traffic during morning and evening rush hours.
As part of the infrastructure program for the Second Republic, President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s administration made the Harare–Beitbridge Highway a hallmark project.
According to The Zimbabwe mail, the improved road would greatly cut down on travel time between Harare and the Beitbridge border post once it is finished.
By promoting cross-border trade and easing freight transit within the southern African corridor, the road is anticipated to increase Zimbabwe’s economic activity.
As part of its Vision 2030 national development framework and investment strategy, the government has restated its commitment to improving road infrastructure.
