Showmax, a leading African streaming service, is set to make waves across the continent with its major relaunch in 2024. Initially launched in 2015, Showmax has become a staple in over 40 African markets, offering a mix of popular African content and exclusive international series. The upcoming relaunch promises a fresh look, new application, and an expanded product suite.
This transformation is part of Showmax’s strategy to cement its position as a premier streaming service in Africa. The relaunch includes a strategic partnership with international media giant Comcast’s NBCUniversal and Sky. Marc Jury, CEO of Showmax, expressed confidence in the platform’s future, “We’re poised to become Africa’s number one streaming service, with a focus on originality and innovation.”
Showmax’s new offering includes three plans: Showmax Entertainment, Showmax Entertainment Mobile, and Showmax Premier League. This expansion caters to diverse viewing preferences across the continent, from mobile users to sports enthusiasts.
Jury emphasized the significance of the Premier League plan, “Showmax Premier League is the first of its kind in Africa, bringing every match of the world’s most popular football league to every corner of sub-Saharan Africa.”
In preparation for the relaunch, Showmax has revamped its branding and technology. The streaming service now boasts a refreshed logo and a robust technology platform, ready for global scaling. Jury added, “With our new platform and bold brand, we’re bringing an unmatched content slate to Africa.”
The content lineup is diverse and rich, featuring everything from animations like ‘Twende’ to popular series such as ‘Adulting’ and ‘Wura.’ The international content library is set to grow, thanks to the Comcast partnership, bringing global hits and blockbusters to African audiences.
Showmax’s growth and innovation have been globally recognized, with accolades from the New York-based Rest of World and Nigeria’s 2023 BrandCom Awards. As Showmax gears up for its 2024 relaunch, it stands ready to redefine the streaming experience for millions across Africa.
