The Zimbabwe Congress of Trade Unions (ZCTU) has expressed strong support for the Palestinian citizens, condemning the prolonged and brutal attacks by Israeli forces. This statement comes in the midst of escalating tensions in the region.
Palestine’s envoy in Zimbabwe, Dr. Tamer Almassri, recently decried the international community’s response to the attacks, which have resulted in significant casualties, including thousands of Palestinians, including women and children. Hospitals have also been targeted in the conflict.
Almassri reported that Israeli forces were specifically targeting the densely populated Gaza strip, home to 2.2 million Palestinians within a small area.
In a statement, ZCTU’s Secretary-General, Japhet Moyo, called for global unity to end protracted conflicts worldwide. The organization expressed unwavering solidarity with the Palestinian people in their pursuit of justice, peace, and statehood, while condemning the ongoing violence in Gaza.
Moyo strongly denounced the attacks on civilians, which have led to a humanitarian crisis and a substantial loss of lives. ZCTU urged the International Criminal Court (ICC) to investigate war crime charges against Israeli authorities.
The statement also called upon the Government of Zimbabwe to convey a clear message to Israel to halt its actions and respect the rights and freedom of the Palestinian people. ZCTU stressed the importance of serious negotiations for a genuine settlement that accommodates both parties.
Moyo emphasized the need for the global working class and people worldwide to support the Palestinian struggle for freedom and justice.
