KEY POINTS

  • Affordable ambulance services cover Zimbabwe’s urban and rural areas.
  • Subscription costs only $1 per month or $12 annually.
  • Festive season traffic demands extra caution from all drivers.

Moovah, a top short-term insurance provider, has partnered with Medical Air Rescue Services (MARS) to deliver affordable and dependable emergency ambulance services as Zimbabwe approaches the rainy and holiday seasons.

Moovah partners with MARS for affordable emergency medical response

This collaboration aims to boost road safety and provide peace of mind for motorists during a period known for increased travel and traffic accidents. Accident rates typically spike as people travel to visit family and attend gatherings, with the rainy season often overlapping with the holidays.

According to NewsDay, data from Zimbabwe’s Traffic Safety Council shows that 51,924 road incidents occurred last year, most of which took place during the holiday season. Many incidents involved reckless driving, speeding, and dangerous overtaking, often worsened by alcohol or drug use during celebrations.

Gift Noko, chief insurance officer at Econet Insurance, which operates Moovah, called for driver vigilance during this high-risk time. “We encourage all drivers to drive carefully, not only for their safety but also to protect other road users,” Noko said. “The mix of wet weather, holiday excitement, and heavy traffic creates a hazardous environment, and we each have a role in promoting safety.”

Through the partnership with MARS, Moovah policyholders gain access to swift medical evacuation and transport to the nearest hospital in the event of an accident. The service, available for just $1 per month or $12 per year, offers a cost-effective alternative to private ambulance options, which can reach up to $150 per trip. Coverage extends nationwide, including remote areas.

Econet Insurance prioritizes affordable, life-saving support for Zimbabweans

“At Econet Insurance, we continually seek ways to enhance the value and protection we provide,” Noko said. “This partnership with MARS highlights our commitment to affordable, accessible life-saving services. Our policyholders can drive confidently, knowing emergency help is only a call away.”

The Traffic Safety Council of Zimbabwe’s findings underscore the importance of caution during the holiday season. “While it’s a time for celebration, drivers need to stay focused and alert,” Noko advised, urging motorists to ensure vehicles are roadworthy, obey speed limits, and avoid driving under the influence.

MARS, known for its professionalism and quick response times, is a leader in Zimbabwe’s emergency medical services. The collaboration with Moovah strengthens its mission to provide accessible emergency care across the country, especially in remote areas. Ivy Chanakira, acting head of operations at MARS, expressed enthusiasm for the partnership, stating, “Our teams are highly trained and prepared to respond swiftly, ensuring our clients receive top care when they need it most. This partnership aligns perfectly with our goal of making emergency medical services accessible to all Zimbabweans.”
